KIDNEY STONES WORKUP

All patients with suspected kidney stones require a CT KUB (non contrast abdo/pelvic CT scan) unless the patient is pregnant.

A plain KUB X-ray is also recommended to assess if the stone is visuable.  Is the stone cannot be seen on X-ray it is called ‘radiolucent’.   Radiolucent stones are suggestive of uric acid stones that are amenable to chemical dissolution
